The City Council committee on ways and means, chaired by Councilor Yan Lam S. Lim, will deliberate the request of The Xavier Stage (TXS) for amusement tax exemption for their theater production of “Agatha Christie’s 10 Little Indians”.

The production is among the highlighted performances of TXS’ 12th theater season, which coincides with the group’s 15th anniversary.

Originally penned by renowned author Agatha Christie, 10 Little Indians was translated into Cebuano by Don Pagusara and directed by Bart P. Savior.

The play explores themes of justice, guilt, moral accountability, and social hierarchy, centering on ten individuals who are mysteriously invited to a dinner gathering on an isolated island, where they are confronted with accusations of murder.

Tickets are priced at P150 each, with proceeds intended to benefit the Pan sa Kada-adlaw Program of Xavier University’s Office of Mission and Ministry.

Under RA 7160, the holding of operas, concerts, dramas, recitals, paintings, and arts exhibitions, flower shows, musical programs, literary and oratorical presentations, except for pop, rock, or similar concerts, shall be exempt from the payment of amusement tax.

In her letter addressed to the City Mayor, Ms. Begil emphasized that the support from the city government plays a vital role in strengthening the local arts sector, while also advancing the wider promotion of Filipino arts, culture, and heritage.

The play is scheduled to run from February 23 to 28, 2026, at the XU Little Theater. (JAO/SP)

(JRG/SP)

Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez reiterated his call for the review and amendment of the city’s traffic ordinance following a special report presented by Councilor Roger Abaday on the rising number of vehicular accidents in Cagayan de Oro.

During the 22nd Regular Session, Councilor Abaday delivered a special report on the surge in vehicular accidents recorded in December, particularly during the holiday season.

The increase was attributed to the city’s role as a regional commercial hub, which resulted in a significant influx of vehicles.

In his remarks, Rodriguez pointed out that the city’s traffic ordinance has not been updated for 19 years, noting that the existing policy dates back to 2007.

Outdated regulations may no longer be responsive to current traffic conditions, given the substantial increase in the number of vehicles and changes in road usage patterns, he pointed out.

Rodriguez also recalled that in the previous year, he proposed a total ban on 15-footer container trucks and other heavy vehicles during peak hours—from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays , and explained that the proposed restriction aims to ease traffic congestion and reduce the risk of road accidents, particularly in high-density areas.

Rodriguez likewise expressed his appreciation to the City Government, particularly Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, for the ongoing rehabilitation and reactivation of traffic lights throughout the city, and noted that these efforts are vital in strengthening traffic control measures and preventing road accidents.
