THE 21st City Council of Cagayan de Oro is calling on the public to stay vigilant amid a surge of malicious misinformation and disi

nformation circulating on social media in recent days.
Several posts—both from individual accounts and Facebook pages—have been spreading misleading captions and manipulated content targeting members of the Council. These false posts have contributed to public confusion and have unfairly created suspicion toward the local legislature. Among the most circulated fabrications is the false claim that the Council approved a move to declare journalist Jessica Soho persona non grata over the Mega Health Center issue.
Majority Floor Leader Councilor Edgar Cabanlas raised concern that such posts appear intentionally crafted to mislead the public, damage the reputation of the Council, and distort the real issues at hand.
The Council stressed that while Kagay-anons have every right to engage in public discourse and voice their opinions, these discussions must be grounded in facts. Members reiterated that legitimate concerns can be properly addressed through the appropriate committees, and the public can always verify information through official sources—such as the City Secretary’s Office and the official City Council page—rather than relying on unverified online content.
Councilor Marlo Tabac likewise appealed to the community to refrain from creating or spreading false information that harms the city and misleads residents.
As the viral falsehood continues to circulate, the Council urges the public to rely on verified information and avoid sharing unconfirmed claims. (SPE/SP)

COUNCILOR Imee Rose P. Moreno, on Monday, has called for an investigation into the delayed construction of the Mega Health Center.
The councilor made the call in her special report during the 20th regular session of the 21st City Council, presided over by Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Councilor Roger G. Abaday, as she sought answers for the constituents.
The Macanhan Mega Health Center has faced numerous setbacks, raising serious questions about the project's management and adherence to timelines.
In her special report, Councilor Moreno emphasized that the community deserves clarity regarding the allocation of funds and the operational status of the construction.
“For years, our constituents have been asking, what happened to the Mega Health Center. In response to public concerns, interviews were conducted with a contractor and with the representatives of city government while these interviews aimed to provide clarity, instead revealed more inconsistencies than answer,” she pointed out.
To facilitate a thorough inquiry, Councilor Moreno proposed a joint meeting with the committee on health, finance, and public works, to provide insights into the issue plaguing the Mega Health Center project.
“Our people deserve transparency, they deserve action, not excuses. Let us choose transparency over silence. Accountability over excuses, and service over politics. Because at the end of the day our decisions affect real families, real lives and the community that simply wants what was promised to them,” she concluded.
For his part, Councilor Paolo Nicolo Gaane, chair of the committee on health, stated that during his committee meeting, it was agreed to request the City Legal Office for updates on the matter to ensure the council receives complete and accurate information in line with our oversight functions.
“We choose to precede carefully so not to preempt ongoing executive actions. Our goal has always been to complement not to interfere with the efforts of the executive department,” he stated.
The legislative body decided to wait for the response of the City Legal Office regarding this matter. (JBD/SP)
