COUNCILOR Desiree Dahino stressed that child protection is a shared responsibility as she reaffirmed her commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children during the five-day Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Basic Training on Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) organized by the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Office in partnership with the International Justice Mission (IJM).
As chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family Relations, Dahino emphasized that protecting children begins with ordinary people making extraordinary choices—choosing to listen, to care, to speak up, and to take action.
In a Facebook post, the lady councilor shared that her commitment goes beyond responding to cases of abuse. She stressed that the greater goal is to prevent abuse from happening in the first place, noting that the true measure of success is when more children grow up safe, protected, and empowered.
Dahino also said the vital role that every adult plays in creating a secure environment for children. “Every child deserves at least one adult who will stand up for them,” she stated.
She encouraged everyone to become advocates for child protection, reminding the community that safeguarding the welfare of children is a shared responsibility. “Let us all choose to be that adult,” she added. (JDO/SP)
