City council approves donation of nine motor vehicles to brgys

The 21st City Council approved an ordinance authorizing Mayor Klarex Uy, through Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, to execute a deed of donation of nine motor vehicles to selected barangays in the city.

The vehicles will be donated to Barangay Bugo, Camaman-an, Canitoan, Consolacion, Dansolihon, Lapasan, Mambuaya, Patag, and Puerto, and may be used for official barangay purposes, such as public safety and disaster response, health and sanitation support, and other legitimate operations.

Under the ordinance, the barangays are prohibited from selling, leasing, mortgaging, encumbering, sub-donating, or otherwise disposing of the vehicles.

They are also responsible for fuel, operation, maintenance, repairs, and proper accountability records.

The ordinance now formalizes the transfer and donation of the purchased vehicles to the barangays.

Vice Mayor Rodriguez, principal author of the legislation, explained that these 9 barangays were chosen as beneficiaries of the vehicles for having narrow roads, which could only be serviced by smaller vehicles particularly for garbage collection and other essential barangay operations.

She also expressed her intention to expand the program in the future and donate additional vehicles to other barangays. (SPE/SP)
