COUNCILOR Gilda O. Go, chair of the City Council committee on senior citizens, voiced her full support for Mayor Rolando A. Uy’s RISE MED program, an initiative designed to expand access to free maintenance medicines for senior citizens with hypertension and diabetes.
According to Councilor Go, the program highlights the city government’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of the elderly, particularly those who struggle to obtain or afford their daily medications.
She added that the availability of free oral medicines and injectable insulin will greatly reduce the financial and health challenges faced by seniors and their families.
Set to roll out this month, the program will be carried out by the City Health Office in coordination with the City Health Insurance Office.
Distribution will take place in all barangay health centers, with home delivery services offered to seniors who are unable to leave their homes.
“This initiative is a vital step toward improving the quality of life of our elderly population. It ensures that they remain healthy and cared for, with the full support of the local government,” Councilor Go said as she commended Mayor Uy and the City Health Office for introducing the RISE MED program.
