Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez urged the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), headed by Engr. Armen Cuenca, to intensify its oversight of the full implementation of the city's “No Segregation, No Collection” policy, in accordance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

The call was made during a joint committee meeting, which discussed the special report of Councilor Imee Moreno regarding persistent garbage collection issues presented during the 122nd Regular Session of the 20th City Council.

VM Bebot stressed that the failure of some barangays to properly implement solid waste management policies has significantly contributed to the city's growing waste collection problem.

She underscored the need to empower barangays to take a more active and responsible role in segregation efforts.

“Our aim is sustainability, that all barangays can [strictly and religiously comply with] garbage segregation.”

VM Bebot also directed CLENRO to revisit its strategic plan and strengthen the monitoring of implementation measures to ensure sustained compliance with waste segregation efforts at the grassroots level. (JDOpema/SP)
