"IT'S just a matter of political will.”

This was the firm statement of Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez during the City Council’s 6th regular session, in response to the special report on the proposed amendments to the Curfew for Minors Ordinance.

Recalling her 11-year tenure as barangay chairperson of Barangay Nazareth, Vice Mayor Bebot shared that the ordinance can be implemented effectively if local leaders are consistent in its enforcement.

She cited her routine practice of patrolling the barangay at 10:00pm along with barangay tanods to check for minors still outside their homes.

Those found in violation were brought to the barangay library for safekeeping. The next morning, their parents were called in for a conversation and counseling session, followed by the signing of a commitment form to prevent repeat violations.

With this approach in mind, the vice mayor encouraged barangays not to wait for the proposed amendments before taking action.

“The ordinance is already there,” she said, adding that proper implementation lies within the initiative of each barangay. (SPE/SP)
