Alarmed by reported leptospirosis cases, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez urged the immediate coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) and City Health Office (CHO) to prevent further infections and protect public safety.
This, after Councilor Paolo Nicolo Gaane, chair of the committee on health, reported that 10 individuals allegedly died of leptospirosis last week according to the information forwarded to the Office of the Vice Mayor.
In her rejoinder, VM Bebot shared that she received the information from an officer of the Cogon Public Market. She referred the matter to the committee on health to ensure proper verification and coordination with health authorities.
Councilor Gaane vowed to look into the concern and conduct the necessary investigation.
The coordinated action among the City Council, the City Health Office, and the Department of Health is crucial in strengthening leptospirosis prevention efforts, especially in high-risk areas such as public markets and flood-prone communities, VM Bebot concluded. (JDO/SP)
