TO better prepare student-trainees from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in the world of medical field, the 20th City Council enacted an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to affiliate the said institution with the City Health Office (CHO) for student training.

In his letter to the City Council, Mayor Uy emphasized that the partnership aims to support the education, training, and professional development of USTP students, preparing them to become globally competitive in their fields.

Under the terms of the contract of affiliation, the CHO shall provide maximum opportunity for the trainees to gain actual experience and training and allow them to participate in clinical conferences, symposiums, and other professional development activities.

The CHO shall likewise conduct regular dialogues and meetings with USTP to discuss concerns related to training and affiliation.

USTP, on its part, shall submit a certified list of qualified trainees to the CHO and City Treasurer’s Office and assume responsibility for interns in case of illness or injury during the affiliation.

Additionally, USTP shall also coordinate with the designated CHO nurse on internship schedules,

duties, discipline, convocations, and other related activities.

The contract of affiliation will take effect on August 1, 2025 renewable depending on the agreement of both parties. (JAOclarit/SP)
