Tax exemption for The Xavier Stage production okayed

THROUGH an ordinance, the 20th City Council during its regular session on Monday, presided over by City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, granted exemption from payment of amusement tax to The Xavier Stage of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan for its sponsored production: “William Shakespeare’s: A Midsummer Night‘s Dream”, to be held from February 28-2024 to March 6, 2024, at the XU Little Theater.

In his letter request to the Office of City Mayor Rolando A. Uy, Isaac Matthew Arguelles, production manager, said the performance serves as an academic enhancement for students not just for XU but for the entire Cagayan de Oro Community.

The request of XU was recommended by Mayor Uy, citing that under the City’s local tax code the holding of operas, concerts, dramas, recitals, painting and art exhibitions, flower shows, musical programs, and literary and oratorical presentations, except pop rock, or similar concerts shall be exempt from the payment of the amusement tax.
