THE City Council committee on subdivision and landed estate chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas will conduct an ocular inspection on September 4, 2025 to figure out the request for access road of residents at Corrales Extension, San Vicente, District 3, Barangay Puntod.

It may be recalled that the Barangay Council of Puntod headed by Barangay Chair Alexis Dacer, requested the city government through the committee to allocate funds for the  possible acquisition of a private lot to serve as permanent right-of-way of more or less eight families who are afraid the lot owner may fence the area on August 30, 2025.

A representative of the lot owner shared they have already secured a fencing permit in 2019. He suggested for an alternative pathway for the residents even offering to provide free backfilling materials.

Councilor Cabanlas said there are legal procedures to follow for any land expropriation.

“Expropriation will not be of value kung wala’y mahitabo nga negotiation, only after failure of negotiation will the expropriation process (begin),” Cabanlas opined.

On the request of the committee, the lot owner agreed to hold in abeyance for three months more their plan to fence the property while the committee is still reviewing its course of action.

With this, the committee will conduct an ocular inspection together with the City Engineer’s Office, City Legal Office, City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), to determine the actual situation of the area.

“Atong lang tan-awon. Let us get the bird’s eye view and its connectivity sa city street,” said Cabanlas. (JBD/SP)
