Suan backs move to hike senior citizen pensioners

COUNCILOR Aga Suan, joined by his Rotary Youth counterpart Matt Julia Pintor, expressed strong support to Councilor Yvy Emano's special report during the 20th City Council's recent session which asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian to increase the number of Cagayan de Oro senior citizens receiving the national pension.

Currently, the national pension program supports 14,025 senior citizens in the City while the city government grants pension to 2,500 qualified elderlies.

Emano bared that over 10,000 elderlies in the city remain waitlisted.

With this, Councilor Suan said he would lobby the proposal to his brother, Congressman Lordan Suan of the first district of Cagayan de Oro so that the concern would be elevated to the administration for action.
