‘Study now, pay later’ program for students up for study

The City Council committee on education, chaired by Councilor Jing Y. Daba IV, will take up a proposal to adopt a local Study Now, Pay Later (SNPL) Program for qualified Kagay-anon students.

The initiative was endorsed by Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez, 2nd District representative, urging the city government to explore partnerships with institutions offering Australian-accredited qualifications, including Alana Kaye College (AKC) in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

The program, according to Rodriguez in his letter to Mayor Rolando Uy, had its successful rollout in Negros Occidental.

Students were able to access internationally recognized education under deferred payment schemes, allowing them to pay only after completing their studies and securing employment.

Rodriguez further explained that program graduates may become eligible for skilled employment opportunities in Australia, which could open pathways to permanent residency and eventual citizenship.

The initiative could strengthen household income, boost remittances, and contribute to building a globally competitive Filipino workforce, he added. (JAO/SP)
