SP declares July 12 as South China Sea Arbitral Award Day in Oro

THE 21^st City Council has officially declared July 12 of every year as South China Sea Arbitral Award Day in the city to raise public awareness on the significance of the 2016 arbitral ruling under the United National Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Through a resolution, during the regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, the legislative body also urged all barangays to conduct appropriate week-long programs and activities leading up to July 12 to commemorate the anniversary of the historic arbitral award.

This is to promote public understanding of the ruling, its relevance to the international law, and the country’s maritime rights in the West Philippine Sea.

Barangays are encouraged to organize educational forums, information campaigns, flag-raising ceremonies, exhibits, lectures, and other activities that appropriately commemorate the occasion while promoting patriotism and responsible citizenship. (JBD/SP)
