The 21st City Council authorized Mayor Rolando Uy to sign a multi-sector Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) installing trash traps in Bitan-ag Creek to curb waste and improve water quality.

The said MOA will involve the Environmental Management Bureau- Regional Office 10, city government, nine barangays, and private partners.

Under the said agreement, the EMB-10 will facilitate the installation of trash traps and conduct quarterly monitoring to help improve water quality.

For its part, the city government will deploy manpower through its Hapsay Sapa Project to operate and maintain the trash traps, including the transport of residual waste to disposal facilities.

The identified barangays, including Nazareth, Camaman-an, Puntod, Lapasan, and Barangays 36, 35, 26, 24, and 22, are tasked to support periodic hauling and submit monthly monitoring log sheets to ensure sustained implementation at the grassroots level.

Allied Care Expert (ACE) Medical Center, Limketkai Sons, Inc., Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc., and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM CDO Downtown), will act as adopters who will help in funding, maintaining, sustaining the program.

The initiative aligns with the ridge-to-reef approach of the government to control pollution and cushion the impact of human activity from upland and lowland areas, as well as coastal and marine ecosystems. (FDC/SP)
