The 21st City Council, led by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, passed a resolution urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – 2nd District Engineering Office to prioritize the desilting of the Alae River in Barangay Bugo.

This move followed the concern raised by Councilor Marlo Tabac about the ‘island-like’ obstruction at the Alae Bridge, which has disrupted the river’s flow and increased flooding risks.

Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez said that the DPWH Central Office has already coordinated with the city for the implementation of its flood mitigation effort, Oplan Kontra Baha.

The agency has an amphibious equipment that is fit to address the concern without damaging adjacent structures to prevent water from inundating nearby communities, he further remarked.

The legislation, unanimously approved by all council members, was sponsored by Councilor Tabac, chair of the committee on barangay affairs. (FDC/SP)
