THE committee on public works, in its recent meeting, reviewed the construction project of Gaisano, a business establishment in Barangay 26, which reportedly caused several issues affecting barangay residents.

These concerns encompassed environmental impacts, drainage obstruction, sanitation, and public health.

Punong Barangay Albert Adecer who was present during the committee meeting said the barangay council welcomes any development for as long as it does not cause inconvenience and affect the safety of residents.

It may be recalled that Councilor Marlo Tabac reported that an embankment activity in the said barangay has resulted in health, environmental, and sanitation risks.

The Office of the Building Official (OBO) has reportedly issued a stoppage order since the company has yet to comply with all requirements and does not have an approved permit.

Meanwhile, a representative from Gaisano confirmed they have temporarily halted operations in compliance with the order and currently in the process of completing all necessary requirements. They are also negotiating with residents regarding lands that have yet to be acquired.

Committee Chair Councilor Al Legaspi Sr. stressed that moving forward, Gaisano must coordinate closely with the barangay to build a good relationship, noting that the barangay is best positioned to understand the needs and concerns of the community. (SPE/SP)
