DURING the second regular session of the 21st City Council, Councilor Imee Rose Moreno delivered a special report asking for an update on the ongoing delay of garbage collection in the city.

Councilor Moreno, who had consistently raised this concern during the 20th City Council, reintroduced the matter to the current legislative body, emphasizing that several areas in the city continue to experience unaddressed complaints and delays in waste collection.

She recalled that in the previous council, she had requested a formal inquiry into the performance of the city’s garbage collection contractor. A joint committee meeting was subsequently convened, resulting in a resolution requesting the management of Jomara Konstruckt Corporation/Tencil Construction Incorporated (JVA) to submit an inventory of garbage trucks and manpower.

Despite repeated follow-ups, both the committee secretary and the office of Councilor Morenohave yet to receive any response.

“This is very disheartening because they are not giving importance to the request of the City Council of Cagayan de Oro,” she said.

With a new chairperson now presiding over the Committee on Environment, Moreno moved to bring the matter back to plenary for re-investigation and follow-up on the previously requested requirements.

The motion was duly noted by Committee Chair Councilor Enrico D. Salcedo, who assured the body that appropriate action would be taken. (SPE/SP)
