COUNCILOR Imee Rose P. Moreno, on Monday, urged the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) to intensify security efforts in the city.

This was the call of the lady councilor during the courtesy visit of the newly appointed City Director P/Col. Gerardo Ulanday to the legislative body, as she shared her personal experience of theft at her own residence that remains unsolved.

“When it comes to crime prevention it really takes the whole community to help the police force. But when it comes to solving crimes, we leave it all to the police,” she pointed out.

She asked the COCPO on what steps they have taken to prevent these crimes and ensure justice is served.

PLTCol. Ernesto Niebito M. Daing, Deputy City Director for Operations, who accompanied P/Col. Ulanday, said the support from the community by providing information and feedback could significantly contribute to the arrest of the suspect.

He highlighted the importance of community support programs set by the COCPO, which is the barangay intelligence network, including initiatives that involve the business sector, particularly through evidence such as mandatory installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) security cameras.

Councilor Moreno lauded the efforts of COCPO and congratulated City Director Ulanday for his appointment and requested him to prioritize solving crimes more efficiently by strengthening security measures through utilizing new technology to track and apprehend offenders.

“Sir, I believe that you want to make the Cagayan de Oro the safest city, and we will support you on that. We just hope that we can be able to prove to the people that crimes will be solved regardless of where the crime happened, whether it happened to a high-profile case or not,” Moreno concluded.
