Councilor Edgar Cabanlas, who presided over the meeting, said the MOA to be entered into by the city government, Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PFIDA) and the Balubal (CDORSHIP 4) Sericulture Farmers Association, will generate livelihood opportunities that will help residents with their day-to-day living, and, therefore, found no reason to delay the approval of the said request.

He even recounted visiting the production hub, where he saw firsthand how the caterpillars were fed with the green foliage of mulberry leaves, until they were ready to spin cocoons of silk threads.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mark Lloyd Ytang, PFIDA Technical Assistance Unit Head, shared that they have already provided the group with one-hectare mulberry plantation.
This year, PFIDA will also be providing a solar cocoon dryer as part of the project package, he added. (FDC/SP)
