Kawakawan Elementary conversion to integrated school up for discussion

THE education committee, chaired by Councilor Jing Daba IV, is set to tackle the proposed opening of Grades 7 and 8 classes at Kamakawan Elementary School as an initial step toward its eventual conversion into an integrated school.

In a letter to City Mayor Rolando A. Uy, Punong Barangay Marlon Fidel D. Bongay Jr. said the council of Indahag filed a measure to recommend the request of the School Parents, Teachers’ Association as an expression of support.

Bongay believes that it would provide learners with greater access to quality secondary education, reduce their travel burden, and contribute to the long-term goal of converting Kamakawan Elementary School into an integrated school.

Kamakawan Elementary School serves as the primary feeder school of Indahag National High School.

The continuous increase in enrollment at the latter has resulted in classroom congestion, inadequate instructional facilities, and a growing demand for teaching personnel.

The proposed opening of Grades 7 and 8 classes at Kamakawan Elementary School is expected to help decongest Indahag National High School while improving access to junior high school education for learners from Sitio Kamakawan and nearby areas.

It is likewise expected to reduce transportation costs and travel time for students and enhance the delivery of quality basic education services within Barangay Indahag. (JAO/SP)
