STUDENTS and local dance groups lit up the stage and went head-to-head in the Sayaw Ta Bai! Year 3 held last August 16 at the Centrio Ayala Malls.
The event, sponsored by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez and Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, featured three major categories: modern contemporary, hiphop, and latin formation.
The Hiphop dance category saw high-energy performances, but it was Clique Point that emerged as champions after receiving the highest score based on the criteria which included choreography, execution and entertainment value.
Earning the second place was Randoom, with Amboys HD Family rounding out the top three.
From street dance music, the beat shifted to the grace and creativity of the modern contemporary category, where the Cagayan de Oro National High School (Junior High) – SPA Dance Arts stood out with their artistic and theatrical performance, earning them the top prize.
Close behind were the Damsaylon Dance Troupe in second place and the Lumbia National High School SPA Dancers in third.
Capping off the competition was the Latin formation category with the Cagayan de Oro Golden Aces Dance Sport Team delivering a sensational performance that sealed their championship win.
They were followed by the Agnus Dei Dancesport Team in second place and the DVSR Dancesport Team clinched the third spot.
All winners received cash prizes and a plaque, with each champion group awarded ₱30,000. Second placers took home ₱20,000, while third placers received ₱10,000. Non-winning groups were given ₱5,000 each as consolation prize.
Special award for Best in Costume went to CDONHS-JH SPA Dance Arts (Modern Contemporary), Clique Point (Hiphop), and CDO Golden Aces Dancesport Team (Latin Formation), with each team receiving ₱5,000.
VM Bebot, in her special message, said that she is truly happy that the dance competition has reached its third year, celebrating the diverse talents of young Kagay-anons.
She also assured the participating groups that the city government will really push for programs that advance the skills of the youth.
“Kamo makalaum nga kami ni Congressman Rufus, Mayor Klarex Uy ug tibook banay sa pamilya Rodriguez kanunay musuporta para sa atong mga kabataan aron mapasundayag ang ilang mga talento,” said VM Bebot.
More than a competition, Sayaw Ta Bai! serves as a celebration of Cagayan de Oro’s vibrant dance community and local talents, giving young Kagay-anons a stage to showcase their creativity and passion. (FDC/SP)
