THE City Council committee on ways and means chaired by Councilor George S. Goking during its meeting Thursday discussed the indorsement of City Mayor Rolando A. Uy relative to the proposal of the Local Finance Committee for amnesty or relief on the delinquency of real property tax, transfer tax, and business tax, fees and charges.

The Local Finance Committee, through its Resolution No. 058-2022, requested the members of the City Council to enact an ordinance granting condonation of all interest and/or penalties of Real Property Taxes during the preceding years, provided that the said taxpayer must pay all their delinquencies and the payment of their current year Real Property Taxes on or before June 30, 2023.

The committee also discussed the proposal of the LFC for the enactment of an ordinance condoning all interest and penalties on business taxes, fees, and charges from 2020 to 2022 incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

City Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, ex-officio member of the committee, said she is thankful for the move, citing that it will benefit the people of Cagayan de Oro.

For his part, Councilor Aga Suan pointed out that the proposed ordinance is good and beneficial to all.

Councilor Goking assured that this will be thoroughly studied before the enactment of the needed legislation.

Vice Mayor Rodriguez recommended that this be tackled again during the next committee hearing to sort out issues and possible amendments to the proposal.
