Go backs study on seniors’ rights, palliative care
Councilor Gilda O. Go, chairperson of the committee on senior citizens, witnessed the presentation of the study on elderly demographics, which featured sessions on senior citizens’ rights and palliative care, held last week at SM CDO Downtown.
Held as part of the Elderly Filipino Week celebration, the discussions focused on common conditions affecting senior citizens, their rights and legal protections against abuses and violations, and the importance of palliative care in alleviating pain and other distressing symptoms among older persons with serious illnesses.
With the theme, “May halaga at karapatan, may boses at ambag sa bayan,” Go reaffirmed her commitment to upholding the dignity, rights, and welfare of senior citizens and promoting their meaningful participation in their respective communities.
Go also expressed her gratitude to the speakers and facilitators for sharing their expertise and valuable insights during the program.
They included National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Regional Director Mary Jean Asum, MPA, CESE; Neil Aldrin G. Omega, regional director of the Commission on Population and Development–Region X; Atty. Teresa Quiñal Blanco of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines–Misamis Oriental Chapter; and Dr. Joanna Michelle F. Sabal, a palliative care specialist.
“Together, let us continue building a city where our nakatatandang Pilipino are respected, heard, empowered, and given the opportunities they deserve,” Go emphasized. (JAO/SP)
