COUNCILOR Paolo Nicolo Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health, nutrition, and health insurance, issued a public warning after the City Health Office released a public advisory verifying the reported cases of Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) cases within the community.

“I am urging the public to protect yourself by drinking safe water, practicing proper hygiene, eating well-cooked foods, and seeking immediate medical assistance if symptoms appear,” Councilor Gaane posted in his social media page.

Health officials have seen more patients presenting vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever over the past few days.

The City Health Office is now gathering data and conducting investigation and active surveillance for the possible source of this rise.

Based on studies, AGE is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines commonly caused by viruses such as norovirus, or by bacteria and contaminated food.

Councilor Gaane also warns the public that dehydration and complications can occur, especially among infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. (JBD/SP)
