COUNCILOR Paolo Nicolo Gaane expressed alarm over the critical importance of recognizing the early signs of kidney disease. He said ignoring these could lead to severe complications.

As chair of the committee on health, Councilor Gaane highlighted several early warning signs that the public should never ignore: persistent fatigue; swelling in ankles, feet, or face; changes in urination; muscle cramps; and poor appetite.

“These could be early signs of kidney damage—not just normal,” he said.

Councilor Gaane particularly stressed the heightened risk for individuals with certain existing conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure or those who take pain relievers often. “Your risk of developing disease is significantly elevated,” he cautioned.

He reiterated the severe consequences of delayed diagnosis and treatment. “If ignored, this can lead to dialysis and transplant. Don’t wait. Get checked early,” he said. (JBD/SP)
