Emano backs emergency communications preparedness during NET Week 2026

Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, representing Deputy Speaker Bambi B. Emano, joined participants and stakeholders during the Emergency Communications Training and Simulation Exercise held at the Audio-Visual Room of the College of Medicine, USTP Cagayan de Oro Campus, in line with the observance of National Electronics and Telecommunications (NET) Week 2026.
Organized by the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines–North Mindanao Chapter (IECEP-NM) in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 10, the activity was anchored on the theme, “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World.”
The training brought together approximately 100 participants from various sectors, including Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) offices, civic communications organizations, amateur radio groups, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), DICT, local government DRRM units, and Amateur Communications and Radio Clubs (ACRCs) from across Northern Mindanao.
In her message, Councilor Emano underscored the critical role of reliable communication systems in disaster response and emergencies. She emphasized that effective communication enables responders to coordinate more efficiently, reach affected communities promptly, and deliver essential assistance during times of crisis.
The exercise was designed to enhance disaster preparedness and strengthen the capabilities of emergency responders, communication volunteers, and amateur radio operators through practical training and simulation activities.
Among those present were OCD Region 10 Director Antonio B. Sugarol, DICT Region 10 Assistant Regional Director Engr. Michael Andrew E. Buot, former National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 10 Director Engr. Teodoro D. Buenavista Jr., USTP Main Campus Vice Chancellor Engr. Alex L. Maureal, along with representatives from partner agencies and organizations.
The event was spearheaded by IECEP-NM under the leadership of Engr. Francis R. Jariolne, PECE, Governor of the North Mindanao Chapter, with the support of DICT Region 10 and collaborating institutions. (JAO/SP)
