Stronger preventive measures that protect children from violence should be in place as this has serious and enduring consequences, said Committee on women and family relations Chairperson Councilor Des Dahino during the recent session of the 21st City Council.

According to Dahino, she recently met with the City Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (CIACAT-VAWC) to discuss strengthening school-based and barangay-based Information, Education, and Communication campaigns against all forms of child abuse.

Her office is preparing a proposed Comprehensive Anti-Bullying Ordinance aimed at strengthening the city's policies on child protection, she further opined.

Dahino also emphasized the need to expand mental health support services in schools and continue promoting parenting education, noting that collective commitment of families, schools, communities, and government agencies helps safeguard young schoolers from any of form of threat or danger. (SPE/SP)
