Dahino backs proposal for waste management department

“INVESTING in proper waste management is not an expense but a prevention,” emphasized Councilor Desiree Ann Dahino during the recent regular session, as she expressed support for Councilor Eric Salcedo’s proposal to establish a separate department dedicated to solid waste management.

Councilor Dahino acknowledged that while creating a new department may require additional budget allocation, the long-term costs of flooding caused by clogged canals and post-disaster clean-up efforts are far greater.

She expressed hope that the new department would not only focus on waste collection and cleanup but also on fostering behavioral change among constituents, raising environmental awareness, and promoting a culture of respect for the environment.

The proposal has been referred to the committee on environment for appropriate action. (SPEscoltos/SP)
