Councilor Paolo Nicolo Gaane to head health, nutrition and health insurance committee

COUNCILOR Paolo Nicolo Gaane has been appointed Chairperson of the City Council Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Health Insurance during the first regular session of the 21st City Council held on Monday, July 7, 2024, presided over by reelected City Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez.

Councilor Gaane follows in the footsteps of his mother, former Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, who previously chaired the same committee during her three consecutive terms in the City Council. Her leadership laid the foundation for significant legislative initiatives in the health sector, and her son now continues the legacy of public service in this vital area.

The Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Health Insurance is tasked with studying, investigating, and reporting on all matters related to public health and social health insurance. Its responsibilities include reviewing and recommending measures aimed at disease prevention and treatment, as well as the implementation of a universal social health insurance program for indigent residents.

The committee also oversees matters concerning the maintenance, operation, and potential expansion of the City Health Department, City Hospital, various health centers throughout the city, and the City Health Insurance Office.

Councilor Gaane’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and expanding access to quality medical services for all Kagay-anons, particularly the underprivileged.
