COUNCILOR Gilda O. Go, chairperson of the City Council committee on senior citizens, is inviting the public, especially the senior citizens and their families, to join a free online learning session titled “Benefits and Privileges of Senior Citizens” on September 25, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. via Zoom video conferencing.
The session, organized by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), aims to inform and empower the elderly by giving them updated details about their rights, privileges, and the different government programs that support their well-being.
Councilor Go highlighted that the initiative reflects the city’s dedication to caring for its elderly population.
“Our senior citizens have greatly contributed to the growth of our community. It is our duty to ensure they live their golden years with dignity, security, and purpose,” she said.
The program will cover key laws and services designed to protect and support senior citizens. Among these is the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (RA 9994), which grants discounts, VAT exemptions, and healthcare benefits to promote the welfare of the elderly.
It will also cover the Centenarian Act of 2016 (RA 10868), which provides incentives and recognition to Filipinos who reach 100 years old and the Social Pension Program, which extends financial assistance to indigent senior citizens, particularly in the areas of health, mobility, and accessibility.
Emergency support services will likewise be available during disasters, health crises, and other urgent situations will likewise be addressed.
Those interested may register at https://bit.ly/2025LS15. Families and caregivers are also encouraged to participate to assist their elderly loved ones in accessing these programs and privileges. (JAO/SP/Photo from Councilor Go’s FB page)
