DURING the 18th regular session of the 21st City Council, Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano reported that the unsealed graves at the Bolonsori Cemetery need immediate action following reports of a detectable foul odor in the area.
She emphasized that this situation is unacceptable, especially since the cemetery had undergone recent renovations funded by the city government to improve its appearance and orderliness.
The councilor stressed that the City Memorial Park, being a public cemetery maintained by the local government, should uphold dignity, cleanliness, and proper sanitation as it serves as the final resting place of the city’s departed loved ones.
“This is our way of providing public service. We must ensure that the City Memorial Park is maintained with dignity, order, and sanitation,” Emano said.
To address the issue, the lady councilor moved to refer the matter to the committees on environment, economic enterprise, and the City Health Office (CHO), and called for an explanation from the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), which supervises the cemetery’s operations.
She also urged the local government to inspect other public cemeteries in the city to ensure similar issues are prevented. (JAO/SP)
