IN line with the City Government’s mandate to establish a sound and responsive land use policy, the 20th City Council, in its regular session on Monday presided over by Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Councilor Romeo V. Calizo , adopted a resolution approving and adopting the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of Cagayan de Oro City for 2024–2032, as endorsed by the Joint Regional Development Council-10 Full Council and Advisory Committee.

City Mayor Rolando A. Uy emphasized that the adoption of the CLUP and its corresponding Zoning Ordinance is a critical legal requirement for the plan’s ratification and approval by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Central Office.

Legislative approval is necessary to complete the final step in institutionalizing the plan, he added.

The CLUP plays a vital role in promoting balanced growth and building safe and resilient communities amid rapid development and investment influx. It also serves as a key reference for the sustainable development of Metro Cagayan de Misamis and the region’s capital city.

Specifically, the CLUP involves a comprehensive review and updating of spatial data, formulation and refinement of the draft Zoning Ordinance, with active participation from members of the 20th City Council, and the conduct of public consultations and hearings.

Certified as urgent by the City Mayor, the legislation was unanimously approved by the members of the City Council. (JAOclarit/SP)
