Cooperatives have role in building stronger communities – Councilor Go
Cooperatives create sustainable livelihoods, empower communities, and expand opportunities for local entrepreneurs and workers, Councilor Gigo Go said during the opening of Cooperative Month 2026.
Go, who represented Mayor Rolando “Klarex” A. Uy at the event, joined cooperative leaders, members, government officials, and partners from across Northern Mindanao during the celebration held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, Velez Street, Cagayan de Oro City.
The opening salvo featured a foot parade, Holy Mass, ribbon-cutting of the Coop Trade Fair, cooperative pledge and program proper, along with the recognition of outstanding cooperatives and oath-taking of the Regional and Provincial Cooperative Development Councils.
Go expressed appreciation to the Regional Cooperative Development Council–Region X and the Cooperative Development Authority for bringing together stakeholders to celebrate the cooperative movement.
She said cooperatives are communities founded on unity, shared responsibility, and empowerment.
As the city continues to support the cooperative sector, Go called for stronger cooperatives, greater support for local entrepreneurs and workers, and the creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities.
She also emphasized the importance of building communities where no one is left behind. (PGU/SP)
