THE city affirms its commitment to celebrating milestones that shape its identity and inspire future generations to continue building a stronger, more united Cagayan de Oro.

This comes after the 20th City Council, in its regular session on Monday, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, adopted a resolution endorsing the production of a commemorative stamp for the 75th Charter Day of Cagayan de Oro.

The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and aims to mark this significant milestone in the city’s history.

The project underscores the city’s desire to preserve its rich cultural heritage while promoting local pride and identity through commemorative stamps—a long-standing tradition used worldwide to celebrate historic events and achievements.

The resolution seeks to formalize the partnership with PHLPost in launching a special stamp series bearing iconic images and symbols reflecting the city’s growth and transformation over the past 75 years.

According to its proponents, the commemorative stamp package will serve as a lasting tribute to the city’s founding as a chartered city and a meaningful souvenir for residents and visitors alike.

It will highlight Cagayan de Oro’s evolution from a quiet town into a dynamic hub of commerce, education, and governance in Northern Mindanao.

PHLPost has supported similar projects across the country, such as the 75th Charter Day of Ormoc City and the 75th Founding Anniversary of Kidapawan City, featuring prominent landmarks and cultural symbols unique to each locality.

With this initiative, Cagayan de Oro aims to join the ranks of cities recognized through philatelic celebration.

Select designs will be unveiled during the official ceremonies of the 75th Charter Day celebration and will be made available to the public once finalized. (JAOclarit/SP)
