City, PHILPOST to ink pact for shared use of govt property

THE 21st City Council, during its 52nd regular session, enacted an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to enter into and sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHILPOST) for the shared use of a government-owned property at Toribio Chaves and Rizal Streets, Barangay No. 4, this City.

Under the MOA, the City Government and PHILPOST may use designated portions of the premises for government offices and services, with PHILPOST retaining its postal operations in its assigned area.

The city will undertake necessary repairs, renovations, alterations, and improvements to the building.

It will also maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and reasonable upkeep of the portions it occupies; coordinate with PHILPOST on matters involving shared access, utilities, security, and maintenance, and ensure that its occupancy and operations do not unreasonably interfere with PHILPOST’s postal services.

Meanwhile, PHILPOST will continue maintaining and operating postal services within its designated portion of the property. It will coordinate with the City Government on operational, access, maintenance, and security concerns and ensure that its use of the premises does not interfere with the City’s lawful occupancy.

PHILPOST will also be responsible for repairing damage to the portion it occupies arising from the use and wear of the property or from the acts or omissions of its officers, employees, personnel, contractors, or authorized occupants, without prejudice to the terms of the separate Deed of Usufruct.

The ordinance was certified urgent by the City Mayor and subsequently approved by the City Council. (JAO/SP)
