Councilor Edgar Cabanlas, chair of the economic enterprises committee, conducted an ocular inspection of both the Eastbound and Westbound terminals on September 25 as part of continuing efforts to improve terminal operations and ease traffic congestions in the city.

The inspection aimed to assess the current state of facilities and determine measures to enhance traffic flow and promote economic activity.

Building on the committee’s earlier decision to reopen the Eastbound Terminal, the inspection focused on preparations for its rehabilitation to accommodate provincial public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and minibuses.

Councilor Marlo Tabac, who is also the punong barangay of Gusa, committed to maintaining the terminal’s cleanliness and ensure proper order through close coordination with relevant offices.

Strict measures will also be enforced against illegal parking in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, the City Legal Office will be reviewing the legal requirements necessary for the reopening, including the amendment of the ordinance that previously transferred some routes to the Market City Terminal in Agora, Lapasan.

The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) will be tasked to designate which routes will be permitted to enter the facility.

For the Westbound Terminal, the committee plans to organize and specify allowed routes, improve facilities, and hold public hearing to engage stakeholders and address operational concerns.

Joining the inspection were Committee Vice Chairperson Councilor Alam Lim, East–Westbound Terminal and Public Market Head Allan Fernandez, Engr. Nonito Oclarit of the RTA, City Engineer Joel Momongan, Atty. Jose Edgardo “Egay” Uy of the Regulatory Compliance Board, and Mary Sean Molig of the City Economic Enterprises and Business Development Administration (CEEBDA), among others. (SPE/SP)
