Gaane acts on complaints of school vs quarry operations

COUNCILOR Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance, requested the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) to verify and monitor the quarry operations near the Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School (SHJMS) in Barangay Gusa.

This, following discussion on the complaint of the school against operators of hauling trucks which transport quarry materials without covering the soil causing air pollution at the area.

In his letter complaint to the committee, Mr. Gaudencio Garife of SHJMS, said the school received several complaints from parents and students that they have been suffering from dust inhalation from the residue brought about by the dump trucks loaded with quarry materials passing through JR Borja Extension.

He said these dump trucks pass through the school area without canvas covering of the soil when they transport from the quarry operations.

Garife said such practice might affect the health of the parents, teachers and especially students.

During the recent meeting, representative of CLENRO said quarry operation nearby was already closed and the business permit had expired since 2016.

“Kung naa man gani nag-operate hangtod karon, illegal nana siya”, he said.

Councilor Gaane also requested the CLENRO to submit its written investigation report to the committee for proper disposition. (SP/JBD)
