Law on No Build Zone policy pushed

COUNCILOR Leon Gan proposed the adoption of a resolution requesting any member of the House of Representatives to fast track the enactment of a law pertaining to the No Build Zone policy.

This, after Councilor Reuben Daba, in his special report during the recent regular session, cited complaints about the assistance given to victims of typhoon Vinta and asked the council to establish guidelines for the distribution of relief to calamity victims.

The councilor also aired his concern over calamity victims who return to their places in no build areas.

Gan said cases regarding distribution of assistance need to be considered.

“Because out of the 800 to 1500 flood victims of typhoon Vinta in Cugman, only 47 were listed and given financial assistance. There were no guidelines in relief distribution, only a mere pronouncement made by a former president,” Gan cited.

Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy referred the matter to the committee on social services chaired by Councilor Reuben Daba for investigation and evaluation, and for the establishment of parameters in the distribution of calamity assistance. (EF)
