SP accredits AIDS Network in LSB
CAGAYAN DE ORO City legislators headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy during the 60th regular session of the City Council presided over by Councilor Zaldy Ocon adopted a resolution accrediting the Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro AIDS Network (MOCAN) in the city’s Local Special Bodies (LSB).
In a letter to Mayor Oscar Moreno, Fritzie Estoque, chairperson, said MOCAN is composed of government and non-government agencies with the common goal of fighting Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The organization has been a member of the Cagayan de Oro City AIDS council since 2012 and has a strong desire to continue to be of service to the city, she added.
MOCAN aims to pool resources for the implementation of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and AIDS programs and activities; coordinate with the Local AIDS Council and other STI, HIV and AIDS bodies and organizations for sharing of resources and expertise for prevention, care and support intervention, among others.
The Power learned that programs initiated by MOCAN last year include the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial and Stabilization, World AIDS Day, among others.
The resolution was endorsed by the committees on health, sanitation and health insurance, and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Maria Lourdes S. Gaane and Ian Mark Nacaya, respectively.
