THE 21st City Council of Cagayan de Oro, during its 10th regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, approved a resolution commending Javier Alessandro “Javi” Jacutin Mariona, a 20-year-old footballer with Kagay-anon roots, for bringing honor and pride to the city through his achievements in sports.The resolution, authored by Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez, highlights Mariona’s rising career as an emerging Filipino football player.


He is a member of the Philippines U-23 National Team and recently competed in the 2025 Mandiri Cup in Indonesia, where he displayed skill and composure on the field. His achievements continue to inspire the youth and strengthen the city’s reputation in the field of sports.


Mariona is the son of former Cagayan de Oro tennis star Marisue Jacutin and Rodrigo Mariona, and the grandson of Salvadoran football legend Salvador Mariona. (JDO/SP)

In a move aimed at "turning awareness into action," City Councilor Des Dahino participated in the one-day Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) Training, organized by the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Station 4 in collaboration with barangay councils and community stakeholders on September 13 at the Barangay Bonbon Gymnasium.


With the theme “Empowering Frontline Responders for Safer Communities,” the training introduced basic arnis techniques aimed at enhancing their ability to respond effectively to security challenges within their communities.


As the chairperson of the committee on women and family relations, Councilor Dahino stressed the importance of continued collaboration among the barangays, the police, and the broader community in fostering a safer and more secure environment for the residents of the city specially for the children. (SPE/SP)
