Thus, said Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano as she conveyed her appreciation and encouragement to senior citizens during the CAFESCA Monthly Meeting held on June 16, 2026, at the Senior Citizen Center in Barangay 40, Cagayan de Oro City.
Emano underscored that senior citizens remain valuable members of the community, emphasizing that age should not prevent them from pursuing active, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.
She highlighted the importance of gatherings that promote social connection, relationship-building, and knowledge-sharing among senior citizens, while expressing her gratitude for initiatives that provide meaningful activities and encourage their continued participation in the community.
Citing the reminder, “The youngest you will ever be is today,” Emano encouraged them to continue embracing every moment, participating in worthwhile activities, and finding joy and purpose in their daily lives.
The councilor also reminded senior citizens to obtain their senior citizen identification cards to ensure easier access to the benefits and privileges granted to them by law.
However, she clarified that qualified senior citizens should not be denied discounts and privileges solely because they lack a senior citizen ID, as other valid documents indicating their age may serve as proof of eligibility.
Importante nga nahibalo ang atong mga senior citizens sa ilang mga katungod. Dili sila angay mahadlok sa pagpangutana ug pagpahibalo kon adunay establishment nga dili motuman sa balaod,” she stressed.
The monthly meeting gathered approximately 55 participants, including senior citizen chapter presidents from various barangays across the city. Emano reaffirmed that safeguarding the welfare, dignity, and rights of senior citizens remains among her continuing priorities in public service.
For Emano, supporting the elderly goes beyond implementing programs and extending benefits. It also means listening to their concerns, recognizing their valuable contributions, and ensuring that they continue to feel valued, respected, and cared for by the community. Councilor Moreno Y. Daba IV, chair of the City Council’s committee on education, extended his warmest congratulations to the awardees of the inaugural Gawad Agipo of the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCdO) held at the City Tourism Hall on June 10, 2026.
Expressing his full support for the initiative, Daba commended the City College of Cagayan de Oro for establishing a recognition program that highlights the dedication, achievements, and meaningful contributions of individuals and groups who embody excellence, leadership, and commitment to community service.

The 21st City Council, headed by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, favorably approved the application of Frances Memorial Parents Foundation, Inc. (FMPFI) for the Preliminary Subdivision Development Plan (PSDP) of its subdivision project in Barangay Carmen.
With an area of 19,698 square meters, the proposed socialized housing project will generate 76 lots.
The approval of the PSDP is still subject to the conditions imposed by the City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD), the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator, and the City Engineers Office.
The legislative measure was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on subdivision, and on laws and rules both chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas. (JBD/SP)
