The City Council committee on education, chaired by Councilor Moreno Y. Daba IV, is set to deliberate on a resolution requesting City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to allow the use of the city evacuation center as temporary classroom for Poblacion Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Center in Barangay Indahag.
As stated in the resolution, the Poblacion ECCD Center presently occupies the old Barangay Hall building, which, due to its age and structural deterioration, poses risks to the safety and welfare of pupils, teachers, and staff.
The facility has shown significant weakening and visible damage, raising concerns over its continued use for classes.
Currently, classes are temporarily held at the Poblacion Covered Court, but these are frequently disrupted due to its use for other barangay activities.
In 2023, Barangay Indahag was among the beneficiaries under the City Mayor’s priority projects for the construction of a new ECCD Center in Poblacion. However, construction has not yet commenced. (JAO/SP)

The City Legal Office (CLO) advised Barangay Bugo to revise its proposed amendments to their Barangay Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Ordinance to ensure consistency with the existing city ordinance.
In its proposal, Barangay Bugo seeks to amend Paragraphs 13, 14, 16 of RLP-008-2008 to increase garbage fees for residential areas, stores, eateries, and other commercial establishments and to raise penalties for littering.
The CLO, however, maintained that revisions in any barangay legislation must complement, not contradict, with city laws, and any such changes imposing penalties higher or lower than those prescribed under Ordinance No. 13378-2018, or the Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance of the city, should be repealed or modified.
The said measure is calendared in the next barangay affairs committee meeting chaired by Councilor Marlo Tabac after it was deferred due to non-attendance of the representative from Barangay Bugo. (FDC/SP)
