THE 21st City Council during its regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez has enacted an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Rolando A. Uy to sign a one-year lease contract with Mendero Medical Holding Group Corporation for a 495-square meter space of the Hemodialysis Unit within the J.R. Borja General Hospital (JRBGH).
The move aims to expand dialysis services and improve healthcare access for residents of the city.
JRBGH is a level II accredited public hospital with a 250-bed capacity, serving the city and neighboring areas. Its hemodialysis unit, licensed by the Department of Health, addresses critical needs for kidney failure patients. However, resource constraints have limited its capacity.
In his letter to the City Council, Mayor Uy said that the agreement seeks to establish the partnership and institutional cooperation between the parties to provide accessible dialysis facility that promotes the efficient delivery of essential healthcare services and ensures the continued availability of quality dialysis treatment for patients.
Aligned with the safety, security, and human development component of the city’s rise agenda, the partnership is expected to bring in additional expertise, equipment, and operational support.
During the regular session, Councilor Yevonna Yacine B. Emano sought an update on the current operational status of the hemodialysis center at JRBGH. She raised questions about the center’s management and capacity.
In response, Councilor Paolo Nicolo Gaane clarified that the lease of contract with the previous private lessee had already expired. The former lessee operated 12 hemodialysis units, while the new lessee has expanded the facility to 15 units, including modern equipment and a full complement of manpower.
After thorough discussion, the legislative body approved the said measure with Councilor Imee Rose Moreno’s abstention. (JBD/SP)
“Sa matag piso nga igasto sa produkto sa mga mag-uuma ug mangingisda, usa kapamilya ang natabangan,” said Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Chairperson and City Councilor Juancho Roa Pascual as he urged consumers to support local producers during the Fiesta sa Kaumahan Agro Fair and Garden Show on August 6, 2026, at Gaston Park.
The Fiesta sa Kaumahan is part of the month-long Higalaay Festival in August.
A farmer and entrepreneur himself, Pascual shared that he understands the challenges faced by those in the agriculture sector. He affirmed that the government remains committed to supporting farmers and fisherfolk by helping them find markets, strengthening market linkages, and creating more opportunities.
Pascual added that the agro fair provides a great opportunity for agripreneurs to showcase their products, noting that the venue is an ideal location to reach potential consumers as many tourists primarily visit Gaston Park during the Higalaay Festival.
He also encouraged the youth to view agriculture as a profession and a business filled with opportunities for growth, innovation, and technological advancement.Lastly, Pascual expressed his gratitude to the DFA, BFAR, City Agriculture Office, and all partner agencies whose support contributed to the event’s success.
