Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez called for the immediate release of the ₱200,000 financial assistance allocated to each barangay in Cagayan de Oro City, during the joint meeting of the committees on environment, barangay affairs, way and means, and health.

Rodriguez emphasized that the timely distribution of the subsidy is crucial for barangays to effectively sustain their waste collection programs and daily operations.

“Mr. Chair, kinahanglan timely ang ₱200,000 para sa solid waste management kada barangay. Kung malangay og 3 to 6 months, lisod na kaayo kay dako kaayo ni’g gamit sa mga barangay, base sa akong kasinatian,” he said.

Drawing from his experience as former Punong Barangay of Nazareth, Rodriguez stressed that delays in fund releases significantly impact barangay operations, particularly in managing waste collection and disposal.

He also urged the committee to identify the department responsible for the delay in processing the assistance.

“If possible, the funds should be released on  time because our barangays urgently need them. Waste management cannot wait,” Rodriguez reiterated.

The ₱200,000 aid for garbage management is provided by the City Government under the program of the Office of City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy. It serves as vital support for barangays in ensuring the efficient delivery of waste management services across the city. (JDO/SP)
