Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez has filed a proposed ordinance, creating a Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) during a recent committee meeting of the Committee on Social Services.

Rodriguez said that PDAO is currently under the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD) and does not yet operate as a separate office.

Institutionalizing the PDAO will allow the sector to take a more active leadership role in advancing programs and initiatives for persons with disabilities and strengthen awareness and education programs related to disability rights and inclusion, he further pointed out.

City Director Ellaine Josephine Depaur supported the said measure, saying the establishment of a PDAO and appointing a dedicated PDAO officer would strengthen the city’s compliance with the standards for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The proposed ordinance is currently under review by concerned offices and stakeholders. (JDO/SP)
