Judith cites illegal reserved parking spaces in downtown area

This was manifested by Councilor James K. Judith II in his special report during the regular session Monday particularly on the reserved parking spaces of private establishments in the downtown area.

After verifying the complaint received by his office, the councilor discovered that most of these establishments make use of big stones, plywood, and other construction materials, while some have even repurposed old signages formerly used by RTA in the implementation of traffic laws in the city.

All of these improper initiatives were done by the subject establishments just to mark and reserve parking spaces for the benefit of their businesses, lamented the councilor.

Instead of providing their own parking bays, these structures opted to utilize sidewalks directly adjacent to their property and marked the same as “reserved parking” spaces for their building which is a clear violation of the Building Code specifically on the provisions related to parking bays, road access and sidewalk clearance, Judith categorically specified.

Some of these establishments, that violated the said law, were found in the junctions of Tiano-Gomez, Tiano-Yacapin, and Taal-Velez, the councilor further reported.

As requested, the matter was referred to Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) and Committee on Public Utilities, chaired by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo, for appropriate action.
