THE Hala Kumbira Food Festival brought a vibrant mix of flavors, culture, and culinary artistry to life at the Rotunda of Limketkai Mall on August 16.
The event was spearheaded by the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA), led by President Jeffrey Limbonhai, in partnership with the local government, as part of the Higalaay Festival activities.
It served as a prelude to Kumbira 2025, which is set to take place on October 15–17 at the Limketkai Center Atrium, marking the 29th edition of Northern Mindanao’s largest and most anticipated culinary event.
In attendance were Vice Mayor Jocelyn “Bebot” Rodriguez, Councilors Edgar Cabanlas, Desiree Dahino, Yvy Emano, and Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez, who also serves as event co-chairperson.
In last year’s Hala Kumbira, Councilor Rodriguez took part in the festivities with a special cooking demonstration featuring Filipino-style Pad Thai.
This year’s program once again delighted audiences with a showcase of culinary artistry and creativity.
Guests had the chance to savor iconic Kagay-anon dishes such as Humba, Binaki, and Sinuglaw, prepared by COHARA member establishments, while also witnessing live demonstrations from some of the region’s finest culinary talents.
Chef Ace Augustine G. Reyes, Kumbira Chef Master 2024 Champion and Gold Medalist, presented his award-winning take on Humba; Chef Mich Uapal of Sweet House Pastry School shared professional techniques in cake decorating; and Mr. Juzel Narvaez, KUMBIRA Bar Master 2024 Champion and Gold Medalist, captivated the crowd with the art of competitive bartending.
The Hala Kumbira Food Festival seamlessly blended gastronomy, artistry, and community spirit, building excitement for the forthcoming Kumbira 2025, a premier culinary showcase that continues to highlight the region’s rich food culture and creative talent. (SPE/SP)
