Families mark 34th National Family Week
Families from various sectors gathered on September 29 at Cronin Hall to commemorate the 34th National Family Week with the theme, “Pamilya Ko, Proteksyon Ko: Sama-Sama para sa Ligtas na Bata.”
Councilor Gilda O. Go, vice chair of the City Council committee on women and family relations, joined the celebration which featured discussions on laws and measures aimed at protecting children and communities, including Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, particularly on the vicarious liability of offenders.
Also discussed were the warning signs and measures to prevent online sexual abuse or exploitation of children (OSAEC).
The gathering also recognized the Lagang Family, Cagayan de Oro City’s nominee to the annual “Search for Natatanging Pamilya” regional competition of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Committee on the Filipino Family (NCFF).
Families from the solo parents, Indigenous Peoples, Persons with Disabilities, and Oro Women sectors also participated, while parlor games and other activities were held for children and youth.
Also present were committee on women and family relations chairperson Councilor Desiree Ann M. Dahino, represented by Dale Lawas; representatives of committee on social services chairperson Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez; DSWD Region X representative Cristituta Eurese; and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Communications representative Karen Kapa.
This activity was spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Department , under the leadership of CSWD Officer Anecia Tongson and CSWD Solo Parents Focal Person Mary Apple Dawn Tabafa. (JAO/SP)
