Councilor Desiree Dahino, chairperson of the committee on women and family relations, sponsored a resolution commending the City Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (CIACAT-VAWC) for achieving a “highly functional” rating in the CY 2025 Functionality Assessment conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Dahino said the achievement serves as a reminder that protecting women and children is a shared responsibility.

“Beyond the scores, what truly matters is the positive impact of these efforts in the lives of women and children,” she said.

The CIACAT-VAWC earned a total score of 108 points, improving from its previous “moderately functional” rating to “highly functional” in the latest assessment.

The assessment was conducted in accordance with DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2023-181, covering key areas such as organization, meetings, policies, plans and budget, and accomplishments.

Dahino expressed her appreciation to all members of the CIACAT-VAWC and its partner agencies for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their respective mandates in protecting women and children.

She likewise urged the City Legal Office to expedite the review of proposed ordinances aimed at further protecting the rights, welfare, and dignity of women and children.

Dahino said strengthening local policies is essential in ensuring that the city’s efforts to prevent trafficking and violence against women and children translate into meaningful and lasting protection for vulnerable sectors. (JDO/SP)
